| World Class Salmon and Halibut Charters in Nootka Sound
Tucked between mountains and Tahsis Inlet you will find the Village of Tahsis. The name Tahsis is derived from the language of the First Nations people who lived here for thousands of years. Tahshees means "passage way" and one can easily see how the First Nations people arrived at this name after viewing the long, narrow Tahsis inlet that connects Tahsis to the open sea. Tahsis was formerly a bustling mill town with the mill providing almost all of the town’s employment. In its heyday Tahsis boasted a population of over 2500 people. With the closing of the mill the population is now closer to 500 permanent residents and another 400 that arrive for the summer only. Now the focal point of Tahsis is its beautiful scenery and outstanding fishing. Many artists have come to make Tahsis their home and record its beauty with pen and brush. Kayakers and hikers also flock to Tahsis to explore its sheltered waters and many trails. The Nootka Trail which circles Nootka Island is world renowned for its rugged beauty as it winds through rainforest and along white sand beaches. Some consider the Nootka Trail to be an equal yet less busy alternative to the famous West Coast Trail. Whale watching and other wildlife viewing is also popular. Tahsis serves as a convenient starting point for all these activities. |

| Based out of Tahsis BC on Canada’s West Coast, Double Header Charters offers some of the best sports fishing that British Columbia has to offer. Blessed with a number of local rivers including the Conuma and the Leiner, as well as a being a focal point for passing Salmon on their way to rivers in other locations, means multiple opportunities to land a whopper. Having an offshore and inshore fishery also means you are able to keep fishing in weather that may have meant heading home somewhere else. If you’re looking for a West Coast salmon fishing experience, this is your place. The fish here are characteristically large with Coho in the 20 pound plus range and Chinook over 50 pounds being landed every year! Halibut and twelve other species of rock fish are also abundant here. Some “Barn Door” halibut here reach over 200 pounds! With 13 years local experience, owner/operator of Double Header Charters Derek Schurdevin is just the right person to get you hooked up with any one of these species. | ||
Your Guide |
||
Derek Schurdevin is owner/operator of Double Header Charters and has been fishing the waters of Nootka, Esperanza and Kyuquot sound for 13 years. Many outfits bring in different guides year to year and while they may know how to fish they cannot replace local knowledge. Knowledge that only comes from fishing one area season after season and knowing what will work and what won’t. Let’s face it, you don’t want to be paying for a guide to learn the area on your dime. Derek’s combination of youthful enthusiasm and experience assures you an unforgettable fishing excursion. Derek prides himself on consistently putting clients into world class fishing for Salmon, Halibut and rock fish. Derek's attitude is that "Fishing is as important as breathing and that is my attitude each and every day on the water" In fact the only thing Derek holds more important than catching fish is safety. Derek holds a Marine Emergency Duties certificate as well as a Pleasure Craft Operators Card. His boat is also coast guard approved and fully insured. If you have any more questions or just want to talk fishing don’t hesitate to give Derek a call . The BoatBad Company "The fishing Machine" is a 22 ft Campion Explorer with a brand new Suzuki four stroke/Yamaha kicker to get you quietly and quickly out to the fishing grounds.
