World class Atlantic salmon fly fishing action awaits the traveler following a 60 minute helicopter ride over unspoiled wilderness to Grey River, the most remote river on the island of Newfoundland, Canada. Grey River Lodge operates two large, modern, cedar log lodges on this river system, providing guests with many more services than most would expect in such an isolated location. While providing our guests with a superior fly fishing experience is most important, we continually strive to attain a high level of first class service from a staff of friendly and experienced cooks and guides. The tremendous atmosphere created at our lodges is the way fly fishing was meant to be. If you are not into fly fishing, our lodges offer great comfort allowing the visitor to relax and enjoy the fantastic wilderness environment, or if hiking and exploring is your thing, the possibilities are endless. A spectacular one hour helicopter flight over unspoiled wilderness transports the traveler to the most remote Atlantic salmon river on the island of Newfoundland. It is this remoteness which has kept Grey River above most others in terms of providing high quality fly fishing action to it's anglers. The rugged, unbelievably picturesque landscape and magnificent river system creates an amazing fly fishing atmosphere that is matched in only a few select places of this continent. |

Types of Fish |

| Salmon fishing season on Grey River runs from mid-June to late August, with our peak period usually lying from opening day through to late July. Some of the best action is available adjacent to the lodge. For those who are more adventurous and interested in doing some hiking, an unlimited number of excellent pools( many of them as yet unnamed ) await either up or down stream. Angling can be done by wading or simply standing on the rocky shoreline. While regular fly fishing equipment and the standard salmon flies are recommended, it is the action on dry flies which has most excited anglers at Grey River. With the very low fishing pressure and the large number of quality pools available, a very relaxed and free fishing timetable exists. Little wonder our percentage of repeat clients is extremely high. The Grey River system that contains our Atlantic salmon resource consists of about 10 miles of the main branch, which is a medium sized river. This portion is primarily fished by wading, however at The Forks Lodge there are 2 boats which are available for fishing some of the home pools, as well as for the purpose of crossing the river to access pools located on that side. While there are a large number of excellent pools near this lodge, great opportunity also exists to hike the river and fish the many salmon holding areas throughout. The largest portion of the fish entering the river system travel up the Salmon Brook tributary which enters the main stem of the river at the location of The Forks Lodge. It is on that tributary that our Salmon Brook Lodge is located. This would be classed a small river, again with many pools scattered throughout and some of the best located near that lodge. Hiking the tributary to fish farther a field is popular with our guests, and this is done from both lodges. | |||

| Over the years, Grey River Lodge has been host to a great many novice fly fishers, almost all of whom managed to land their very first Atlantic salmon under our guidance. We take great pride in this achievement and issue a very special welcome to all newcomers to the marvelous outdoor sport of fly fishing. Our patient and knowledgeable guides make our lodges the ideal location for any novice to receive a superior and successful orientation to the sport. To strengthen our commitment to the novice, we have obtained a supply of fly fishing equipment which is available for use at our lodges free of charge to those not yet fully equipped for their trial fly fishing period. As well, we welcome couples and families at our Lodges, who are sure to find our facilities extremely well suited to their needs. Our top notch salmon fishing is unquestionable. Some say the spectacular locations of our lodges is what sets us apart from others. But the most frequent compliment from our guests is regarding our tremendous staff and their willingness to do almost anything to ensure total guest satisfaction. One very experienced, well known fly fisherman and outdoor writer was heard telling someone at an outdoor sport show that " I have traveled to many places fly fishing, and have gone to a few of them twice, but I have been to Grey River seven times ". |

| Our lodge called "The Forks" accepts parties of up to nine anglers, while at our second lodge "Salmon Brook" ( tributary of the main Grey River ) we generally limit our groups to parties of four in order to better preserve the world class type angling we demand in this smaller water. We are committed to providing the highest possible quality of fly fishing for all our clients, and this is now taken for granted by most who are familiar with our operation. The standard trip is for five nights at the lodge with parts of six days fishing. Access is via helicopter directly to the lodge from the airport at Deer Lake NF as per the Map provided.
