Types of Fish
Northern Pike over 20 lbs. are common. The lodge record and provincial record is 55 inches. Our guests report catching more pike than in past years, with many 50 inches and higher. Best time: Pike fishing remains outstanding throughout the season. Check out the execptional pike action on the Simply Fishing video.

Lake Trout always provide a challenge. In these cold waters, they grow to enormous sizes, with 30 pounders and even 50 pounders! A new provincial record measuring 51 inches in length and with a 36-inch girth was calculated to be 82-83 pounds. Best time: June and July, the last week of August, and first 2 weeks of September. See the huge lakers on this Simply Fishing video.

Arctic Grayling
, the "sailfish of the north" offer a lively diversion from the "tackle busting" tactics of the Pike and Lake Trout. Try catching Grayling on ultra-light spinning gear or a fly rod. Lodge record is a 22-inch Grayling, and guests report catching a higher average size in 2006. Best time: Mid-June to the end of the season.

Walleye are favorites with most guests, and are abundant in the river outlets and right in front of the lodges. Walleye average about 2-4 pounds, and our guests report catching walleye weighing up to 7.5 pounds. Best time:June and July, and first 3 weeks of August.

About Us
Few places in the Canadian north combine such a variety of freshwater fishing with all the comforts of home. Located near the 60th parallel in northwest Saskatchewan, Lake Athabasca is the largest lake in the province and is recognized as one of the "Big Fish" waters of the world. Whether you're after trophy Lake Trout, Arctic Grayling, lunker Northern Pike, Whitefish, or Walleye, you'll find them all here. Best of all, you'll feel you have the great outdoors all to yourself.

Your Hosts

Cliff and Stella Blackmur have been operating Athabasca Fishing Lodges since 1974. They are known for their hospitality and reputation for providing a quality fishing experience. Many guests return year after year, not only because of the trophy fishing that is unparalled anywhere in the north, but also because of the personalized attention they receive from Cliff and Stella, their guides, and staff.

Accommodations
Nestled in a remote wilderness bay, Otherside River Lodge and Cabins has all the amenities of a full 4-star facility. We have recently added new cabins with screened decks, and electric heat and air conditioning. All cabins have hot water, showers and bathroom facilities. Your private suite-style cabin has full electrical service 24 hours a day. Daily maid service is provided to every cabin.

Each cabin has a living room, two bedrooms, as well as a shower, flush toilet, sink and mirror. Cabins can accommodate 2 to 8 guests, and come equipped with 24-hour 110 v. electricity, electric blankets, heat pumps, and air conditioning.

Our comfortable lounge adjoins the dining room. Patio doors allow easy access to the full deck, the perfect spot to relax during the long northern evenings and swap stories about the legendary fishing at Athabasca. Or enjoy a good book, watch for wildlife, or get together with friends inside the spacious lounge.

We are well known for our delicious home cooked meals served in our full service dining room. At noon you will enjoy a shore lunch of freshly caught fish, prepared by your guide.

Each day can bring a new fishing experience, whether you choose to fish the river beside the lodge, opt for a fly-out to a remote location, or explore the many bays, inlets, and rivers with your guide. Try your luck fishing for five species—trophy Lake Trout, trophy Northern Pike, Arctic Grayling, Walleye, and Whitefish—within easy reach of the lodge.
