How to get to Hearne Lake Lodge?
To reach Hearne Lake Lodge you can either drive to Yellowknife, NT or fly to Yellowknife, NT. All international flights must first land in Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta.
From either of these locations you board a regional airline, you have a choice of 3: First Air, Canadian North or Air Canada. Be sure to ask for the senior's discount if applicable.
We suggest that you arrive in Yellowknife the night before boarding the floatplane to Hearne Lake Lodge. Air Tindi Ltd is our floatplane charter.
Don't worry, we will work very closely with you to ensure you have the trip you deserve.

What makes us standout? At Hearne Lake Lodge, a fly in fishing destination, we are fishers serving fishers and owner operators that live full time at our fly in only fishing lodge 45 miles east of Yellowknife NWT Canada. We have limited ourselves to 8 fishers in house at one time since opening in 1998. This allows us to work very closely with you from booking to departure, ensuring the fly in fishing experience you deserve in Canada's Northwest Territories for Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Arctic Grayling, and Whitefish, and the odd river Walleye.

We don't use guides because you won't need them.  Except for the odd shore lunch and meal of the smaller fish, we have been catch and release since our start in 1998 so the great fishing starts at the dock.
Types of Fish

About Us

Meet your hosts Don and Lucile Stretch:

In 1998, after 30 years of working in the city and waiting for vacation to hunt and fish, I decided to realize my life time dream of owning a remote fishing lodge.
Our two sons had left the nest, so it was now or never. I am lucky and have a wife that loves the outdoors as much as I do. Lucile did not take too much convincing to quit her office job and share my dream with me. The first few years were difficult but fun creating a remote lodge with all the conveniences we were use to in the big city.

We found it hard to return home for the off season after living in the wilderness all summer and finally after a few years decided to live full time at the lodge and the rest is history. With Satellite TV, high-speed internet and IP phone we can stay in touch with the world or switch it off. Living My Dream and loving it!

We limit ourselves to 8 guest at a time so we can supply the personal touches that make us stand out from the others.

I am out every day as part of the package with whoever needs or wants the personal touch. Most people just need a few hours to show them the hot spots and a few northern fishing techniques.
I think a good guide is one who enjoys the excitement of your catch as much as you do.

We work on repeat friends and it shows.

Accommodations

Our Northwest Territories Canada Fly in fishing lodge consist of the kitchen, sunroom, dinning room and washroom. It is located right at the lakes edge. It is as cozy as you would imagine. We are a fishing lodge, so we expect you to bring your rods and equipment inside to rig and service. We even supply reel tools and lube if you need it. There is also a fishing corner with fly tying vise and materials if you want to try your creative skills or run out of that favorite fly. The entrance porch to the lodge has a customer fridge with soda pop and ice, included in your rate. We do ask that you restock it nightly with the supplied cold packs, water and drinks you prefer.

The sleeping quarters and bathrooms are set back 30 yards from shore to guarantee the quiet sleep you will probably need after a long day of the best northern fishing you will experience anywhere. The heated rooms are motel row style, double occupancy, single beds, with private entrance and lake facing windows. The two heated bathrooms have sink, shower and flush toilets. The washrooms are detached but on the same level as the sleeping quarters. There is a full deck along the front of the sleeping quarters connected to washrooms, so no need to touch the ground. The facilities are cleaned daily and kept spotless.

We have wind and solar power and only use the generator to fill the water reservoir as needed, so no background noise other than the loons. There is quiet 110 power supply to charge those camera batteries. On the subject of cameras, we have high speed internet to send those bragging photos back to work or family so bring your patch USB cord. Also if you bring a video cam please bring the firewire so I can download your trip. Catch a monster and get on the website while you are still in camp.

Again, don't worry we will work very closely with you on what to bring and not to bring. With 8 guest only a week it allows for a hands on approach.
