Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.
Calling all “Broads with Rods”!
My husband is an avid fly-fisherman who had fished at Pond’s Resort on the Miramichi, in New Brunswick, among other locations and enjoys nothing more than telling his tales about salmon fishing with his buddies.

I decided it was time for me to share in that experience, so three years ago I became a “Broad with a Rod” and made my first trip to fishing school. Today, with my own rod, waders and flies and along with a couple of bright colored fishing shirts I am confident on the river and enjoy the tranquility of the sport and the camaraderie of the après-fish glass of wine. I have a group of women friends who fish as well, and I have my own fishing stories to tell!
As for my husband, I think he’s proud of my accomplishment.

In about six weeks (April 15) the 2008 Atlantic Salmon season opens on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick and preparations for a season of “tight lines” are in full swing at Pond’s Resort.
With more than a dozen private salmon pools used exclusively by Pond’s guests, this premiere New Brunswick adventure operation offers a classic fly-fishing experience. Just ask the ladies who enjoy Pond’s annual fly-fishing school for women, Broads with Rods. Scheduled for June 20 to 22, 2008 this weekend of fly-fishing offers instruction for the novice and the more experienced fishing enthusiast. The package includes hands-on-the-rod action, including dry land, and on-the-water instruction with experienced guides, gear, accommodations and food.
Broads with Rods is not your typical fishing school. A traditional Miramichi River “shore lunch”, a BBQ and entertainment on Saturday evening are some of the touches that will prove to be “the most fun you can have with your waders on”!

Ladies travel from across Canada and as far away as Florida to participate. As with any fly-fishing get-together it doesn’t take long for participants to become friends and fishing buddies. And yes…even the most novice of “Broads” has experienced that first thrill of a feisty trout or salmon on the line.
